John Brown University is a private, interdenominational, Christian liberal arts college in Siloam Springs, Arkansas that was founded in 1919 at the site where it sits today. The institution also has regional educational centers in Rogers, Little Rock, and Fort Smith, Arkansas. The name is attributed to John Brown, a Christian evangelist, entrepreneur, and radio broadcaster who believed in providing quality education for Christian students who otherwise could not afford to pay. John Brown University instills a conservative set of lifestyle regulations, requiring those students admitted to sign a community covenant that prohibits profanity, pornography, extramarital sexual activity, harassment, tobacco, alcohol, and gambling.

What is your school best known for?JBU has a strong Business College and a vibrant Graphic Design department.  The Christian atmosphere is comforting.  I take advantage of the compassion in the instructors.  They care for their students and want us to succeed.,What kind of person should attend this school?A person who is a believer in God who wants to serve others would be a great match with JBU.

What do you wish you had known before you came to this school? The overall atmosphere of the campus and that not everything was going to be perfect because it was a Christian college.,What kind of person shouldn’t attend this school?Everyone is welcome here. You don’t have to be religious to be here. Everyone is friendly and can find friends easily.

What kind of person shouldn’t attend this school? This school does cost quite a bit, and although it does have a lot of scholarships and grants and work studies available, this can be a huge negative.  John Brown is also an intentionally Christian college; non-Christians MAY attend, but they should be aware that every class and event, whether atheltic, service or just fun, will have a Christian worldview behind it.,What’s unique about your school compared to other schools you considered? This is a medium-sized Christian college with an amazing campus and many opportunities for traveling. It upholds high expectations both academically and in daily life.  John Brown University has a great combination of all sorts of positives, including small class-sizes, a tight Christian community,  and a diverse population (lots of international students).  There are two chapels each week, plus an additional student-led chapel, which is really awesome.  The spiritual life on campus is great and extremely encouraging.  JBU does a lot to make sure there are plenty of mentors for incoming Freshmen to help with the transition.

What do you consider the best thing about your school? Why?For a good portion of my life, I lived in a town of 10,000.  I learned to enjoy small communities.  Therefore, the best aspect of JBU in my opinion is the size of the school.  Our Undergraduate program has 1500, and our graduate program has 500.  Our classes are small, which allows the professors to connect with students on a more personal level.  However, in such small classes, many races are usually represented considering the international programming JBU offers.  Overall, the population size of the school is my favorite element.,Describe your school in one sentence.John Brown University is a community of Christians with diversity in areas of race, nationality, language, denomination, values, and dreams; yet considering the diversity, there is a great sense of connection and unity.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?The worst thing about my school is that we are required to have completed homework before our first class.  On the first day of class you don’t go over the syllabus or anything because it is expected of you to have already looked it over.  I am in the accelerated program there, so I can’t say that it is the same for the entire campus.,What kind of person shouldn’t attend this school?John Brown University is a Christian College.  I wouldn’t recommend this college for a person who is wanting to experience the party scene.  Each person is required to complete one bible study class, so someone who is offended by this should not attend this school.  This school is about twenty miles away from bigger surrounding cities with more recreational activities, so I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who wants to be able to go out to eat and go shopping without having to drive to a bigger town.
