John Brown University is a private, interdenominational, Christian liberal arts college in Siloam Springs, Arkansas that was founded in 1919 at the site where it sits today. The institution also has regional educational centers in Rogers, Little Rock, and Fort Smith, Arkansas. The name is attributed to John Brown, a Christian evangelist, entrepreneur, and radio broadcaster who believed in providing quality education for Christian students who otherwise could not afford to pay. John Brown University instills a conservative set of lifestyle regulations, requiring those students admitted to sign a community covenant that prohibits profanity, pornography, extramarital sexual activity, harassment, tobacco, alcohol, and gambling.

What do you consider the best thing about your school? Why?The diversity, including internationals and missionary kids, within our school is very unique.  They make up about 20% of our population, and add a special culture to our campus. It allows the students to expand their knowledge and experience other countries. Our study abroad programs further our learning about the world. As a missionary kid, I was able to relate with many of the students, and adjusted well to the school with the help of faculty/staff. By building relationships with students of various cultures and attending school-sponsored events, I have gained a greater apprecation for the world.,What’s the most frustrating thing about your school? The most frustrating thing for me, personally, is the money. John Brown University is a private school, and therefore, is very expensive. My family recently returned to the States after living in Poland for 5 years, and my dad is still searching for a job. Apart from this summer, I have not had much of an opportunity to save up money for school, so our resources are very limited. I love the academic and social aspects of JBU, but often feel hindered because of the finances. It would be a blessing to learn without such great financial constraints/worries.

What is your school best known for?JBU is probably best known for its diversity.  There are all kinds of people at JBU, from all different backgrounds .  The staff are very accepting to every race, religion, and gender.  JBU staff are great about encouraging us to travel and see the world first hand, instead of through a television.  They help students from other countries come to the states and be able to attend JBU and to improve their lives.,What do you consider the best thing about your school? Why?The best thing about John Brown University is how friendly and kind everyone on campus is.  The teachers, the staff, the students, the Chapel speakers, everyone.  It is a great place to go and they make it very easy for everyone to fit right in.  As a freshman, i was worried i wouldnt be able to find good friends or have a good time in class with the professors and other students, but my experiance has been the complete opposite.  JBU is a great university and i am proud to go there.
