Dominican University of California is a private institution located in San Rafael and sits on approximately 80 acres near the base of Mount Tamalpais. The campus is recognized for its variety of buildings, built in the architectural styles of specific time periods. Four residence halls are available on the Dominican University campus: Pennafort (all freshman); Fanjeax (mostly freshman); Meadowlands (mix); and Edgehill Village (upper classmen). All residence halls are co-ed. 90 percent of freshmen live on campus and over 50 percent of undergraduate students live on campus. Freshmen are automatically guaranteed a residency on campus. Sophomores, juniors and seniors receive on-campus housing through lottery. Smoking is not allowed on campus, but the university itself is not considered a alcohol-free campus. Pennafort and Fanjeax are dry dorms, as no one over 21 resides in those halls.

What is your school best known for?Nursing.  There are three girls to everyboy because it.  Lately they have been recruiting men through sports scholarships awarding them even if they don’t end up playing here.,What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?Its highschool.  Everything is a clique and you don’t hang out with someone unless they are in your major.  Its really hard to meet people because of it.  there are tons of events all year but people still remain in their little groups

Its also crazy expensive.  The teachers aren’t that great and we don’t get much for it.  Food isn’t great, dorms are shabby at best, administrators don’t want to even see you and are usually hard to get a hold of.

What kind of person should attend this school? The kind of person who should attend this school is one who is serious about his or her education and who prefers having the opportunity to interface directly with their teachers and professors, rather than just a Teacher’s Assistant.  We don’t have sororities or fraternities so someone interested in the Greek life wouldn’t like it here.  However, we do have numerous co-ed dorms and there are quite a few fun activities available for those who choose to live on campus.,What’s unique about your school compared to other schools you considered? My school is a small private campus nestled in a residential neighborhood of San Rafael.  Our class sizes are very small overall.  The total attendance at the school is around 2,100 which includes graduate students.  Our Freshman class is approximately 250 students which means that we get a lot of personal attention from our teachers and administrators.  It also offers a large range of activities and sports opportunities, although because we are so small, we don’t have a football team.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?Definately the price. You get what you pay for yes, but it costs the same as Harvard!,Describe your school in one sentence. The greatest place you will ever be.

What do you wish you had known before you came to this school? That the dance program is small and there will be times when the students take action and help build it. If you want to get something done around here for you, you have to force it out of the administrative staff. Know what you want because it’s an expensive school and you dont want to waste money trying to figure out what you want.,What kind of person should attend this school? One who likes small campus life surrounded by nature.  The classes are small which is an easy way to meet friends. Going to the Students Union gatherings also helps one to meet new people and to be involved in the school community. This school has amazing teacher from all different backgrounds and their stories are beneficial to the learning.

What do you consider the best thing about your school? Why?Dominican’s curriculum is very well integrated.  I find that the concepts and ideas I’m learning in one class are reinforced by the material and discussions in another.  This is true even with courses as seemingly disconnected as environmental science and intercultural communications.  The environmental science professor relates the science to its impact on world populations and that causes me to think critically about how communication affects the type of industries and pollution controls that are implemented in various regions of the world.  Cultivation of critical thinking skills is Dominican’s emphasis.,What do you wish you had known before you came to this school?I should have spent more time researching financial aid options and the true cost of attending college.  In addition to tuition, you should budget ~$100 per 3 unit class for books.  Additionally, you need to be mindful of the break-points for financial aid.  Last year, I was initially approved for both subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford loans in the summer.  After completion of the summer semester I learned that I had not qualified for the subsidized loans because I took only 4 units, rather than 6, that semester.  It affected my financial aid for the entire year.
