The campus is recognized for its variety of buildings, built in the architectural styles of specific time periods. Four residence halls are available on the Dominican University campus: Pennafort (all freshman); Fanjeax (mostly freshman); Meadowlands (mix); and Edgehill Village (upper classmen). All residence halls are co-ed. 90 percent of freshmen live on campus and over 50 percent of undergraduate students live on campus. Freshmen are automatically guaranteed a residency on campus. Sophomores, juniors and seniors receive on-campus housing through lottery. Smoking is not allowed on campus, but the university itself is not considered a alcohol-free campus. Pennafort and Fanjeax are dry dorms, as no one over 21 resides in those halls.

What kind of person should attend this school?People who love nature, small classes, and community should attend Dominican University. The campus is real small so it’s easy to meet new people. The campus is close to beautiful hiking trails and downtown San Rafael. A person who enjoys hiking, biking and small classes would love Dominican University. It is a place where anyone can thrive , grow and feel accepted.,What kind of person shouldn’t attend this school? The kind of person who should’nt attend this school is someone who is looking to party or be apart of a big University. This campus is real peaceful and has about 2,000 students who attend. Dominican is apart of a peaceful neighborhood. Many of the neighborhood residents are seniors or retired home owners. Many of the students leave the city to have a good time because Dominican is not a party school.

What do you consider the best thing about your school? Why?The class sizes are very small, making the teaching environment very intiment.  Furthermore, the teachers get to know their students very well, and many of them are on a first name basis with the people they instruct.  All of this greatly aids both teachers and students alike, because teachers can accurately tailor their lessons to the specific needs of the class and students will not have a difficult time getting help from their professors.,What do you wish you had known before you came to this school?I wish I had known how to organize my time better, as that was a very necessary skill in coming to this school.  Also, I wish I had known that everything around the campus closed so early, like the resaurants, making it difficult to get food after around 8 o’clock.

What do you wish you had known before you came to this school? If I could have given myself advice before I attended Dominican, I would have advised getting involved in clubs and activites right away. Looking back, some of the greatest memories and learning experiences I had were through work opportunities and student based clubs. I made connections with students and staff through participating in activities like the Outdoor Club and working for the National Park Service that have lasted for the past 11 years since I graduated. It took me about a year to become involved in anything, but when I took a risk to try something new, it paid off.,What kind of person should attend this school?Anyone can find a place to belong at Dominican. It is a small campus where everyone either knows you, or at least recognizes you. It is a private, Catholic school, but I was not a practicing Catholic when I attended, and I fit in just fine. There are many clubs and sports to participate in, both competitive and non-competitive. It is a place where your professors will get to know you, and where you will make friends. There is both nature, and city attractions nearby, something for everyone. It is a place to get to know yourself.
