What is your school best known for?Strong engineering and architecture programs, very rural, Farmer’s Market downtown, good hiking, horrible campus food, impacted classes, and tiny dorm rooms. What’s the most frustrating thing about your school? Our school is very impacted and classes are extremely hard to get.

What do you wish you had known before you came to this school?I wish I had known that the entire Cal Poly campus resides on a hill. There are no level surfaces anywhere and inclines are impossible to avoid. Of course, such trivial matters would not affect my choice, but I would be more prepared in hiking to and from classes everyday if had known. Other than that, there is nothing else I had to know before coming to Cal Poly because their welcome committee does a good job in showing new students the ins and outs of campus. Everything I have to know, I found out after coming here. What kind of person shouldn’t attend this school? If the student grew up in an ethnically diverse community, coming to Cal Poly would be somewhat of a culture shock. Cal Poly’s population is heavily white dominated. Ethnic foods in the immediate San Luis Obispo area is not very good. If he or she comes from a big city and is not very adaptable, then he/she will have a difficult time living in this area.

What do you consider the best thing about your school? Why?This school is exceptional in virtually all fields, ranging from academics to housing to campus atmosphere. Among these, the quality of academics stands out the most to me. The classes are extremely efficient and highly effective when it comes to generating a functional learning atmosphere. The quarter system here accelerates the rate of classes so that more material may be covered in a year, but does not add much stress from the increased rate at which material is covered. The school is legendary for its achievement, especially in engineering fields, which are built upon a strong academic foundation.Describe your school in one sentence. My school is basically the ideal college in every way, consisting of a great town, nice weather year round, academic excellence, and a positive learning environment.

What do you wish you had known before you came to this school?I wish I would have known about polyratings.com to see ratings specifically for Cal Poly professors before I registering for classes. What kind of person shouldn’t attend this school? The quarter system at Cal Poly is very fast-paced so if you prefer greater periods of time to learn material (such as semesters) then this may not be the school for you.
