What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?While there were certainly a good amount of resources to find internships during the summer, there was not a consistant focus or encouragement of the student body.  I wish I had found more internships during my undergraduate summers. What’s the most frustrating thing about your school? The student body at Amherst is generally very well-off financially.  I felt out of my element and a little embarrassed about my poor financial upbringing.

Describe your school in one sentence.Trust fund kids, hipster artists, nerds, jocks, and everyone else jumbled up in what is basically a large high school; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.What kind of person should attend this school?Anyone who is able to get in! Amherst is amazing for a huge variety of people, from those who simply want to study all the time to get into med school to those who want to party every night to those who want to explore a variety of interests before settling in a career goal. The only person I would tell NOT to apply there is someone who wants to get a practical career a.s.a.s, such as nursing or engineering.  The financial aid is such that anyone can attend regardless of ability to pay.

What do you consider the best thing about your school? Why?The best thing about Amherst may also be the worst thing about Amherst. This ‘thing’ is the impertinent lesson that I can do absolutely anything I set my mind to.  Focussing on the upside, conviction in this mantra has made me more daring and wholly committed to following my passions in the name of ‘saving the world.’ In spite of my more rational side, at my core I believe that dedication, education and passion are appropriate tools to be successful both personally and on a more macro level. Amherst gave me this conviction and this audacity.,What do you wish you had known before you came to this school?I wish that, before entering Amherst, I had developed an understanding of the value of travel, and how to integrate it with my ‘homebase’ academic/extracurricular pursuits.  One of my biggest regrets is not traveling abroad during my undergraduate years. I had a tremendous experience at Amherst, but I feel that I missed out on an important process, not just of self-discovery, but also of how to maneuver a world of infinate possibilities and utter sensory overload.  Global travel gives rise to a perspective and logic that cannot be holistically emulated by remaining firmly planted on ones home turf.

What kind of person should attend this school?Anyone can find a place here. This is an awesome college with amazing people and professors.
There are only very rare cases where someone is not satisfied.,What’s unique about your school compared to other schools you considered? No core curriculum proves that the faculty and administration take the students seriously. Anything we want to accomplish, we can do it and we can make that decision on our own.
