5 Great Holiday Gifts for College Students

College Christmas GiftsIn a few short days, the mad rush of the holiday shopping season will begin. I know there are those who keep insisting that gifts are not the ‘reason for the season,’ but any poor college student will easily refute that notion. Yes, it’s great to gather with your family and friends, but who are we kidding? Most students can’t wait to get to the presents. Unfortunately, no matter how many subtle hints they may drop about what they need or want, parents and other relatives never seem to get it quite right. This year, do everyone a favor and check out this holiday shopping list that is sure to please any college student in your life.

1. Money

Hello? This is a no-brainer. Forget fighting the Black Friday crowds and trying to guess what size they wear, every college student wants and needs money! Whether it’s in the form of a check or put together in a creative gift container, cash will always bring a smile at the holidays.

2. Gift Cards

If you worry that your student may blow through cash too quickly, go with gift cards instead. Put together a collection of some of their favorite restaurants and think about including some cards to the local movie theatre and grocery store, too. Gas cards, retail stores, and Starbucks gift cards are also great additions. This way, you can have a little more control over what they purchase while still giving them something they can actually use.

3. Personal Appliances

Small personal appliances can help students bring a touch of home to their dorm room. Items like the Black & Decker Brew n’ Go personal coffeemaker, not only provide convenience, but also can help students save a ton of cash over the semester. Other gifts to consider are a quesadilla maker, panini griddle, or a pizza oven.

4. Gadgets

If you truly want to make college students happy, give them a digital gift. Tablets, such as a Kindle or Nook, are a great idea. For those who enjoy working out, consider getting a Motorola fitness watch that includes an MP3 player, uploads workout data, and even has an audio coach to keep your student motivated. If you have a gamer in your life, be sure to check out Moga. This device turns any smart phone into a handheld game system. Laptops and the newest smart phones are also a good choice.

5. Entertainment

Since most students have crazy schedules in school that make it difficult to keep up with their favorite programs, why not pick up the most recent season of their favorite shows? You can get some great deals during Black Friday on DVD sets, like The Walking Dead, as well as some great movie titles and video games. If you really want to impress them, be sure to check out the new Xbox 360 Halo 4 gift set and other holiday game packages.

If your budget is limited this holiday season, you can always give another gift that all college students are sure to love – food! Throw together a care package filled with your student’s favorite snacks and treats. Don’t forget to include some homemade goodies too, especially if your child is unable to make the trip home. Sometimes, it’s the little things that really make the difference.
